Douglas Martin could barely walk up his driveway without losing his breath. But just three months after having robot-assisted triple bypass at UMMC to repair three blocked arteries, Martin successfully climbed to the summit of Diamond Head on Mount Leahi, one of the roughest hiking trails in Hawaii.

Ronald Bress is the first ever recipent of robot-assisted triple bypass surgery using a minimally invasive heart lung machine. Like many patients, Bress sought out the best health care available, which meant traveling from his home in New York to have the procedure performed at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
